Training Again...

Posted on 09 November 2006

Well, Kev and I are back at it, training for our long distance running endeavours... Okay, so Kev's are probably more endeavours, mine are certainly more in the struggle category.

We're not necessarily training for the marathon this year, in fact, I'll only be running the half come Ottawa Race Weekend. But we'll be training as if it's the marathon I guess. My goal is to try to get to the point where I don't need to take breaks, and run the half straight through. Oh, and to see if I can lose some of this extra weight I've been carrying around for the last 10 years.

We have run around the campus at work the last few days, culminating in a fun (okay, the last third was more gruelling for me than fun) run today that saw us go through some flooded paths. Nortel actually has a great campus for running on in that respect.

The running earlier this year didn't really shed a lot of pounds from my frame, but I really relaxed my diet when I was running. This year I plan on maintaining a more strict diet, and with Meghan living with me now it'll be much easier for the next two months. This could have make me a little more lethargic at times, but I hope it won't be too bad.

Long runs might be challenging this year as I'm playing late night Ultimate at Friday nights, but I'll do my best. As we move towards January I'll want to be running a little later in the day on Saturday anyway as it'll be warmer then. I plan on doing my runs in the gym on a treadmill with a slight incline, which I didn't do last year so hopefully that will also help my cardio.

Onward and upward... hopefully all this training will help me try an adventure race next year with Steve and hopefully Kev.
