12 Miles on a Beautiful Day

By smithdm3 - Posted on 12 March 2006

So, as we get closer to the marathon, my thoughts around whether I'll do the whole marathon or not have begun to be filled by more doubt. I'm seriously leaning towards only doing the half at this point, and then doing a full later on... we'll see though. I haven't yet decided to change my training to reflect that yet though, so if something remarkable happens and I feel like doing the whole thing, maybe I will.

Anyway, onward and upward. The photo shows the run that Kev and I did for the end of week 7 of our training. It was a beautiful day in Ottawa and running outside with Kev was a lot of fun. Apparently I started out grumpy, and I finished a bit back of Kev... he had to noticably slow his pace to run with me, and I ended up falling behind him a bit as I ran out of steam with a mile or so to go (even with 10 and 1s... arghh...). Anyway, I had a great time out running, got a bit of sun though.
Meghan and I went for a walk and lunch in the Glebe, then sat on her porch enjoying the rest of the day's sun. After that it was too my house for BBQ burgers and then out to the Oak with some friends of her's that were in town. A great Saturday for sure.

Because you ran out of steam at the end of your first 12 mile run? You've still got 11 weeks to go and according to your training plan you're right on track.

You should run the whole thing--stock up on those gel pack things, and then throw up at the end. And, don't forget to wear your medal around the city all day long.
